From November 5th to 10th, 2024, the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai once again became the centre of attention in China. At this prestigious event, premium European pork from Spain and Portugal took the spotlight, offering Chinese professionals and consumers the opportunity to learn more about the product.
During this year’s event, Portugal’s Ambassador to China, Paulo Nascimento, and representatives from the Portuguese Trade and Investment Agency visited the booth, engaging in discussions about the opportunities and prospects of the EU Pork market. Similarly, representatives from the Economic and Commercial Office of the Consulate General of Spain in Shanghai interacted with guests, reinforcing ties and promoting collaboration.
Throughout the event, the booth attracted continuous crowds, drawn in by the enticing aromas of European pork dishes. The live cooking area featured chefs preparing a variety of delicacies, including slow-cooked Spanish pork neck with mountain pepper sauce, pan-seared Spanish pork tenderloin with green peppercorn sauce and garlic chips, braised pork ribs with chestnuts, and pork belly with taro. Tapas made with European ham also delighted guests, earning widespread praise for their flavour and juiciness.
CIIE has become a gateway for premium global products to enter the Chinese market, and EU Pork has greatly benefited from this platform. In addition, it has significantly enhanced trade between China and Spain and Portugal, introducing more products to the market, supporting industry growth, and meeting the evolving needs of Chinese consumers.
