From September 16th to September 20th, 2024, a delegation of ten Chinese professionals, coming from all over China, embarked on the second edition of the Europe Study Trip as part of the “EU Pork, The Smart Choice” campaign.
The itinerary covered major pork plants in Girona, Zaragoza in Spain, and Porto and Lisbon in Portugal. Across the five-day journey, participants engaged with renowned pork producers, including century-old companies, providing them with a comprehensive understanding of the industry’s commitment to sustainability, food safety, animal welfare, traceability, quality, and taste.
From September 16th to 18th, the delegation toured Spain’s most prominent pork production regions. In Girona and Zaragoza, they met with industry leaders and learned about the cutting-edge production standards that make European pork a premium product worldwide. Participants explored deeper into the industry’s dedication to quality control, observing firsthand the strict practices that ensure food safety and traceability.
The group then moved on to Portugal from September 19th to 20th, visiting both Porto and Lisbon. These cities, celebrated for their rich history and beauty, also showcased their sophistication in pork processing and product innovation. The professionalism and standardization observed in the Portuguese pork industry impressed the delegation, providing further proof of the high quality and reliability of European pork.
Beyond the business aspects, the trip also emphasized cultural exchange. Participants indulged in local delicacies, including a variety of European pork dishes, and experienced the culinary traditions of both Spain and Portugal. The immersive experiences in these vibrant cities offered an unforgettable blend of business and culture.
As with the first edition, the primary aim of the trip was to influence key decision-makers in the Chinese pork import industry by highlighting the exceptional quality and sustainability of European pork.
The delegation returned with not only a better understanding of the industry but also lasting impressions of European culture, cuisine, and hospitality.
